Professor Sung Ho Kang's research lab specializes in advanced photonic materials and integrated systems, with a focus on metamaterial-based perfect absorbers, plasmonic nanostructures, and their applications in infrared sensing, imaging, and Internet of Things (IoT)-connected devices. The lab explores ultranarrow band mid-infrared absorbers for high-resolution spectroscopy, develops intelligent vehicular systems with voice-based virtual assistants, and investigates the integration of microfabricated photonic devices with cloud and IoT technologies. Research also extends to optimizing internal corporate processes—particularly new product development—as a mediating factor in linking market orientation to firm performance, reflecting a multidisciplinary approach combining engineering, materials science, and business innovation.

Given a set of interconnected elements, linear ordering generates a linear sequence of elements of the set, which is the basis for most constructive initial-placement methods. This paper presents a new strategy for linear ordering. The important difference of the new technique from the previous ones is that it starts the ordering process from the most lightly connected seed. It was applied to various placement problems including standard cell and gate array and produced very good results.
