Professor Sung Hwan Lee's research lab focuses on host-pathogen interactions, particularly innate and adaptive immunity in livestock and model organisms, with a strong emphasis on genetic mechanisms underlying disease resistance. The lab investigates key immune response genes, such as those in the Ly49 receptor family and the Cmv1 locus in mice, to understand natural resistance to viral infections. Marbling differences are possibly a function of complex signaling pathway interactions between muscle and fat. These results suggest that ADAMTS4, which is involved in connective tissue degradation, could play a role in an important biological pathway for building up marbling in cattle.
