About the Lab
Professor Sung-Hye Yoo's research lab specializes in clinical and interventional radiology, with a focus on vascular and interventional procedures in complex medical conditions. The lab investigates the diagnosis and treatment of rare and challenging pathologies, including cerebrospinal fluid leaks, remote hemorrhagic complications after spinal surgery, and rare cardiovascular and hepatic manifestations such as eosinophilic endomyocarditis and chemotherapy-induced hepatic lesions. The lab also explores advanced imaging techniques for accurate volume assessment of parathyroid glands and evaluates novel interventional therapies like yttrium-90 radioembolization for unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.

9Dural tears can occur during spinal surgery and may lead to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage which is rarely involved in remote cerebellar hemorrhage. Only a few of cases of simultaneous cerebral and cerebellar hemorrhage have been reported in the English literature. We experienced a case of multiple remote cerebral and cerebellar hemorrhages in a 63-year-old man who exhibited no significant neurologic deficits after spinal surgery. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) performed 4 days after the su
Eosinophilic endomyocarditis is a manifestation of hypereosinophilic syndrome, characterized by prolonged (>6 months), unexplained peripheral blood eosinophilia (>1,500 cells/mm3) with end-organ damage in unknown causes. We report a case of a 42-year-old patient who developed eosinophilic endomyocarditis following upper respiratory tract symptoms for 2 months. Additionally, endomyocarditis was combined with massive pleural effusion and pericardial effusion, which have not been reported in Korea.
Background and Objectives: Pioglitazone has been known for its anti-atherogenic effects. We compared the effects of pioglitazone in reducing atherosclerosis progression and neointima volume in type 2 diabetic patients. Subjects and Methods: This was a prospective, randomized single-blinded, 8-month follow-up study. Patients with significant coronary artery stenosis were randomly assigned to either pioglitazone (n=19) or placebo (n=18) following zotarolimus-eluting stent (ZES) implantation. Intra
During chemotherapy in patients with gastrointestinal malignancy, the hepatic lesions may occur as chemotherapy-induced lesions or tumor-associated lesions, with exceptions for infectious conditions and other incidentalomas. Focal hepatic lesions arising from chemotherapy-induced hepatopathies (such as chemotherapy-induced sinusoidal injury and steatosis) and tumor-associated eosinophilic abscess should be considered a mimicker of metastasis in patients with gastrointestinal malignancy. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the accuracy and reliability of the semiautomated ultrasonographic volume measurement tool, virtual organ computer-aided analysis (VOCAL), for measuring the volume of parathyroid glands. Methods: Volume measurements for 40 parathyroid glands were performed in patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism caused by chronic renal failure. The volume of the parathyroid glands was measured twice by experienced radiologists by two-dimensional (2D) a
Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is a rare malignancy and many cases of ICCs are diagnosed in an unresectable state. Until now there has been no effective palliative treatment for these cases. Recently yttrium-90 (90Y) radioembolization has been highlighted as a new palliative treatment for these cases. In Korea, there has been no reported case of unresectable ICC which was treated by 90Y radioembolization up until now. We treated two cases of unresectable ICCs with 90Y radioembolization an
Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the characteristics of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) in patients aged 65 and older in order to predict postoperative recurrence based on the results of ultrasonographic surveillance. Methods: Among 1,494 patients (200 male and 1,294 female; mean age, 46.6±11.3 years) who underwent surgery for thyroid cancer at our institution between 2006 and 2015, we retrospectively enrolled 150 PTC patients (29 male and 121 female; mean age, 69.4±4.2 years) aged
Bronchogenic cysts are congenital malformations that are thought to develop from abnormal budding of the embryonic foregut. They are most commonly seen in the mediastinum, especially in the middle and the posterior mediastinum, and they typically show water-attenuation. Anterior mediastinal bronchogenic cyst is extremely rare. Anterior mediastinal bronchogenic cysts with soft-tissue attenuation have not been reported in the English-language literature up until now. We discovered 3 cases of anter
