Professor Taeyoon Yoon's research lab specializes in nanotoxicology and environmental health sciences, focusing on the quantitative prediction of nanomaterial toxicity through advanced computational and experimental approaches. The lab develops structure-activity relationship (SAR) models, particularly nano-QSAR, to predict the cytotoxicity of engineered nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes and metal oxide nanoparticles under varying physicochemical and biological conditions. A key emphasis is placed on improving data quality and completeness in nanotoxicology through meta-analysis, data gap-filling, and standardized descriptor encoding using quasi-SMILES. The lab also investigates nanomaterial interactions with biological systems, including cellular uptake mechanisms and surface chemistry effects on toxicity, using techniques like flow cytometry, ICP-MS, and in situ spectroscopy.

The adsorption of Suwannee River fulvic acid (SRFA) on boehmite, gamma-AlO(OH), has been examined by both macroscopic adsorption and in situ ATR-FTIR spectroscopic techniques.
