About the Lab
Professor Won-jae Lee's research lab specializes in biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences, with a focus on organophosphate poisoning and neuroprotective agents such as diphenhydramine chloride in rodent models. The lab also investigates molecular mechanisms in host defense, particularly the role of extracellular serine proteases (clip-SPs) in immunity and development, using Drosophila as a model system. Additionally, the lab explores optical fiber amplifiers, especially thulium-doped fiber amplifiers, for advanced photonic applications involving dual-wavelength pumping and gain control. These diverse research directions reflect a strong emphasis on translational biomedical research and advanced materials for medical and optical technologies.

15Diphenhydramine chloride significantly reduced mortality in rats with acute, severe dichlorvos exposure.
Objective: To evaluate the effects of diphenhydramine chloride (DPH) on mortality in a rat model of acute, severe organophosphate poisoning (OP). Methods: Wistar rats (n = 40) were randomized to pretreatment with either normal saline (controls), 5 mg/kg atropine, 3 mg/kg DPH, 15 mg/kg DPH, or 30 mg/kg DPH given as a single intramuscular injection 5 minutes prior to a subcutaneous injection of 25 mg/kg dichlorvos (n = 8 per group). The primary endpoint was 10‐minute survival. Survival at 24 hours
Extracellular proteases play an important role in a wide range of host physiological events, such as food digestion, extracellular matrix degradation, coagulation and immunity. Among the large extracellular protease family, serine proteases that contain a "paper clip"-like domain and are therefore referred to as CLIP-domain serine protease (clip-SP), have been found to be involved in unique biological processes, such as immunity and development. Despite the increasing amount of biochemical infor
The transient response of S- and S/sup +/-band thulium-doped fiber amplifiers with 1.4-μm/1.5-μm dual-wavelength pumping scheme was investigated both experimentally and theoretically. In contrast to conventional Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, two characteristic time-constants related with 3 F 4 an
We analyze the gain excursion and tilt function of the thulium doped fiber amplifiers (TDFAs) for the 1.4- and 1.5-μm dual-wavelength pump approach. In the last few years, researches on autonomous ships have attracted attention. One of the essential techniques required for autonomous ships is the awareness of surroundings, including detection and classification of objects. Although researches on computer vision regarding the classification of ship images are still making progress, it is challenging to encounter a lack of enough database that was adequately labeled for ship classification. In this study, data obtained from Singapore Maritime
Summary form only given. We investigated some of the key issues of the amplifier application in WDM systems such as gain tilt and gain excursion, along with their compensating techniques. We explained the gain excursion/tilt behavior of thulium-doped fiber amplifier (TDFA) under 1.4 /spl mu/m/1.5 /spl mu/m main/subsidiary pumping scheme. It was found that it is necessary to control both wavelengths to completely compensate the induced gain excursion from the channel add/drops. With coarse tuning

With the fast consumption of transmission bandwidth, the gain flattened erbium-doped fiber amplifies (EDFA) now became an essential element for realizing high capacity long-haul wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission systems. Most recent development now includes long wavelength amplifiers, which can support more than 80 nm's of the wide, flat gain window when combined with the normal EDFA. There has not been serious investigation on the temperature effect on the multichannel gain of
Stress-induced cardiomyopathy is characterized by reversible systolic dysfunction of the ventricles, usually involving the apical segments. It occurs more commonly in women and is frequently precipitated by emotional or physical stressors. Ever since the first report of typical stress-induced cardiomyopathy-usually known as Takotsubo cardiomyopathy or transient left ventricular apical ballooning syndrome-was issued, variant forms of stress-induced cardiomyopathy have been reported. We describe a
Background and Objectives: The National Cholesterol Education Program-Adult Treatment Panel (NCEP-ATP) III guideline has been widely accepted for the primary prevention of coronary heart disease (CHD). The coronary artery calcium score (CACS) has recently been recognized as an excellent predictor of CHD events, and a primary prevention strategy based on the CACS [the Screening for Heart Attack Prevention and Education (SHAPE) guideline] has been proposed. The purpose of this study was to explore
Increasing in ambient temperature by global warming is likely to reduce milk yields and negatively affect milk quality in dairy cows. The projected increase in temperature would impact on dairy industry since production costs would increase with reductions in milk production. In Korea, dairy farmers are paid according to the composition of the raw milk components (milk fat concentrations, somatic cell counts and bacteria cell counts). In this study, to assess changes of milk quality caused by am
