About the Lab
Professor Won Park's research lab specializes in translational oncology and radiation oncology, focusing on overcoming treatment resistance in cancer through molecular mechanisms and novel therapeutic strategies. The lab investigates the tumor microenvironment—particularly cancer-associated fibroblasts—in hepatocellular carcinoma and other solid tumors to identify targets that sensitize tumors to tyrosine kinase inhibitors and radiotherapy. A key direction involves developing redox-modulating agents and combination therapies to enhance radiation efficacy while minimizing toxicity. The lab also explores non-invasive imaging and prognostic modeling to personalize cancer treatment and improve patient outcomes.

Purpose: Postoperative radiotherapy for breast cancer has a number of associated complications. We performed a retrospective review of 281 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT) treated with radiation therapy (RT) between 1998 and 2008 to develop a prognostic model for those patients.
