About the Lab
Professor Won Seok Kang's research lab focuses on advancing the understanding and management of chronic liver diseases, with a particular emphasis on non-invasive diagnostic methods, metabolic liver disorders such as metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), and the immunological mechanisms underlying hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. The lab investigates the role of gut microbiota in liver metabolism and fibrosis, develops innovative virological assays for HCV quantification, and evaluates novel therapeutic strategies—such as combination therapies with lenvatinib and locoregional treatments—for hepatocellular carcinoma with advanced features. Their work bridges clinical hepatology, microbiome science, and translational virology to improve patient outcomes through precision medicine approaches.
