About the Lab
Professor Wu Ying-Chieh's research lab focuses on interdisciplinary biomedical and computational research, spanning neuro-oncology, microbial pathogenesis, and heterogeneous computing systems. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms in glioblastoma, particularly the role of interleukin-19 in immunosuppression and tumor recurrence, while also developing molecular diagnostics for pathogenic amoebae like Acanthamoeba. In parallel, the lab explores computational optimization for task and system mapping in heterogeneous computing environments, aiming to enhance performance in complex, distributed architectures. Additionally, the lab examines nutraceuticals and traditional herbal formulations for their neuroprotective and microbiome-modulating effects, especially in models of neurodevelopmental disorders.

15Abstract Background Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is an aggressive brain tumor with chemoresistant, immunosuppressive, and invasive properties. Despite standard therapies, including surgery, radiotherapy, and temozolomide (TMZ) chemotherapy, tumors inevitably recur in the peritumoral region. Targeting GBM-mediated immunosuppressive and invasive properties is a promising strategy to improve clinical outcomes. Methods We utilized clinical and genomic data from the Taiwan GBM cohort and The Cancer
Acanthamoeba, human pathogens and natural hosts of pathogenic bacteria, may be accurately detected and quantified by real-time PCR if Acanthamoeba DNA are properly extracted and PCR inhibitors are effectively eliminated. However, the optimization of DNA extraction methods has not been reported for Acanthamoeba. This study compared the effectiveness of two DNA extraction/purification methods (FastDNA(®) Spin Kit for soil and Wizard(®) SV genomic DNA Purification System) by using trophozoites and
this paper, a generic technique for clustering and mapping arbitrary task graphs onto arbitrary system graphs is presented. The task and system graphs studied in this paper have non-uniform computation and communication weights associated with the nodes and edges. The task graphs are directed graphs, while the system graphs are undirected. Using two clustering algorithms presented, a multi-level clustered graph called Spec graph can be obtained from a given task graph, and a multi-level clustere
Mushrooms and Chinese traditional herbs have bioactive nutraceuticals with multiple therapeutic functions, including antioxidant and antibacterial activities and microbiome modulation properties. Mushroom-derived bioactive compounds are used in medicines for the treatment of neurological disorders with abnormal brain – gut – microbiome axis. This study examined the effects of KI Essence extract, a spleen-tonifying formula, on neurite growth, antioxidant activity, hypomyelination modulation, and
We study the heterogeneous use of two programming paradigms for heterogeneous computing called Cluster-M and HAsC. Both paradigms can efficiently support heterogeneous networks by preserving a level of abstraction which does not include any architecture mapping details. Furthermore, they are both machine independent and hence are scalable. Unlike almost all existing heterogeneous orchestration tools which are MIMD based, HAsC is based on the fundamental concepts of SIMD associative computing. HA
In the loneliness economy era, the atmospheric design of light food and beverage spaces is particularly significant in meeting the multifaceted demands of urban consumers. Thus, we investigated how the atmospheric design of such spaces responds to and fulfills consumers’ multidimensional evaluations, encompassing their psychological, emotional, and social needs. The findings underscored the significant appeal of “emotional healing” and “emotional companionship” to consumers. The factor analysis
This study aims to investigate the differences in Taiwanese and Chinese consumer attitudes and values toward products with SDG indicators. SDG indicators have been shared with a significant impact on future product design and corporate image globally, and products with them have gradually gained consumer attitudes. However, many companies have yet to realize the importance of products with SDG indicators for their marketing strategy for gaining the blue ocean and competitiveness. Sustainable dev
This article attempts to extend the list of fiduciary relationship by unlocking some of the hidden fiduciaries in other areas of South Korean private law. The reason for this is as follows. The exact label of “fiduciary relationship” may not be widely used, but the underlying mechanisms can be found in many other legal relationships under South Korean private law. Through the clarification of the types of fiduciary relationship, even though it may not be complete, we can come to understand when
