About the Lab

Professor Yong Suhk Pak's research lab specializes in international business, with a strong focus on knowledge management, social capital, and cross-border learning in multinational and joint ventures. The lab investigates how cultural differences influence social network formation on social media, and how these dynamics affect consumer behavior and firm-level strategic decisions. It also explores the role of governance structures, such as family and chaebol ownership, in shaping export behavior and internationalization strategies in Korean firms. A central theme is the dual role of Korean firms as both knowledge seekers and knowledge providers in global partnerships.

The Effect of Strategic Motives on the Choice of Entry Modes: An Empirical Test of International Franchisers
Yong Suhk Pak
SJR Q1Multinational Business Review

International franchisers have been generally regarded as market seekers who exploit their firm-specific capabilities overseas. The emerging, knowledge-based approach, however, provides a premise to view international franchisers as dynamic learners and/or innovators who try to take advantage of geographic comparative advantages of the global operation. Accordingly, this study examines whether different strategic motives lead to different choices of entry modes. The test results clearly Indicate

SNS(social network sites)

SNS(Social Network Sites: SNS)의 사용자가 늘어나고 그 영향력이 커지고 있다.

Drivers of Korean Export Behavior: The Influence of the Korean Governance Structure and Outside Directors

Determinants of internationalization through exporting have been frequently examined in the Korean context due to its export-driven economy. Previous studies have focused on firm- or managerial- level analysis. The role of the peculiar governance structure of Korean firms, which includes family and Chaebol ownership, has seldom been examined. Further clarification of the influence of this governance structure on exports is required. In addition, few researchers have attempted to examine whether

Understanding Cross-Border Learning with a Social Capital Perspective

Experiential, cultural, and relational resources of the firm have been recognized as three dimensions of social capital, and their interface with the cross-border learning is examined within the context of international joint ventures. A multiple regression model is employed using the samples collected from 100 international joint ventures between Koreans and multinationals. The test results indicated that social capital explains a large portion of the cross-border learning in addition to the kn
