About the Lab
Professor Yong-sung Jo's research lab specializes in environmental and health economics, focusing on the welfare impacts of environmental pollutants and regulatory standards. The lab conducts rigorous empirical analyses using contingent valuation and meta-analysis to estimate the economic value of improved water and air quality, particularly for vulnerable rural and urban populations. Key research directions include assessing the health and economic benefits of reducing exposure to arsenic, iron, sulfate, and criteria air pollutants, as well as analyzing long-term trends in greenhouse gas emissions in the energy sector. 15ABSTRACT: The concentrations of iron and sulfate in community water supplies are a concern for a number of areas in southwestern Minnesota. This study used the contingent valuation method to determine how much consumers would be willing to pay to improve their drinking water quality. On average, individuals were willing to pay US$5.25 per month (in 1995 U.S. dollars) to reduce the level of iron and US$4.33 per month to reduce the level of sulfate in their water to the USEPA's secondary standards
주요 대기오염물질(SO2, NO2, TSP, CO)의 저감에 따른 편익을 추정하기 위하여 대기오염물질의 공기 중 농도 변화에 따른 호흡기계 질병 발생 가능성 변화를 일차적으로 분석한 후, 호흡기계 질환으로 인한 생산성 감소액을 이용하여 질병 발생 가능성의 변화에 따른 경제적 편익(혹은 건강편익)을 추정하였다. 또한, 농도변화에 따른 편익 외에도 오염물질의 농도와 배출량간의 전환계수를 추정하여 단위 배출량 저감에 따른 건강편익을 추정하였다. 단위 배출량 저감에 따른 편익이 가장 높게 나타난 것은 부유먼지로 1톤 저감에 따른 편익은 458.6천원으로 추정되었고, 공기 중의 부유먼지 농도를 1 g/m3 저감시키는 경우의 편익은 약 183.4억원으로 추산된다. 한편, 이산화황, 이산화질소 및 일산화탄소를 1톤씩 줄이는 경우 이에 따른 편익은 각각 188.4천원, 102.4천원, 그리고 105.6천원으로 나타났고, 공기 중의 이산화황과 이산화질소 및 일산화탄소의 농도를 1ppb 낮추는 경우의

본 연구에서는 학교 · 학원밀집지역 · 상업지역 · 지하철역 · 버스정류장의 거리가 공동주택 매매가격에 미치는 영향을 중계동 은행사거리를 사례로 선정하여 살펴보았다. 선행연구 및 산포도 결과값을 활용하여 변수와 유효한 거래내역을 산출하였으며 중계동 은행사거리 학원밀집지역의 거리, 학교 거리, 지하철역 거리, 상업시설과의 거리, 단지 세대수, 경과년수, 상한가, 전용면적을 독립변수로 선정하였다. 회귀분석결과, 학교 거리와 중심 학원밀집지역의 거리는 하한가에 반비례하며 세대수와 하한가는 비례한다. 또한, 단지 세대수, 학교 거리, 학원 거리가 400여개의 학원밀집지역이 조성되어 있는 은행사거리 일대 공동주택 가격에 가장 큰 영향이 있고 학교와의 거리가 공동주택 거래가격 격차에 영향이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 도시공학과 IT의 융합으로 학원밀집지역과 공동주택의 접근성이 갖는 가치를 설정하고 차후 주택재개발, 주택재건축 등 주택에 대한 가치 선정에 활용될 수 있기를 기대한다.
한국을 포함한 OECD 국가들을 대상으로 3가지 의무부담 분담공식을 이용하여 12가지 시나리오를 설정한 후, 2000년도를 기준으로 각 국가가 시나리오에 따라 할당받게 되는 온실가스 감축의무량과 감축비율, 그리고 전체 OECD 국가의 온실가스 감축량 중 각 국가의 감축비율 등을 비교 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 시나리오와 의무부담방식에 따라 다르지만 전체적으로 우리나라의 의무감축량이 일부 국가를 제외한 여타 OECD 국가와 비슷하게 나타났으며, OECD 국가 총 감축량의 약 1.4-3.5%에 해당하는 34.9-85.8백만 톤을 할당받을 것으로 예측되었고 이는 2000년도 우리나라 온실가스 총 배출량의 약 8.1-19.8%에 해당하는 것으로 분석되었다.
