Professor Yoo-ri Lee's research lab focuses on plant cell signaling and membrane dynamics, with a central emphasis on phosphoinositides and their roles in regulating cellular processes such as tip growth, cell wall remodeling, and stomatal regulation. The lab investigates how lipid second messengers like PtdIns(3)P and PtdIns(4,5)P2 modulate cytoskeletal organization, vesicular trafficking, and stress responses in plants. Using genetic, cell biological, and live-imaging approaches in *Arabidopsis thaliana*, the lab explores the molecular mechanisms underlying cell polarity, growth, and environmental adaptation. Recent work also highlights the interplay between phosphoinositides, actin cytoskeleton, and pectin-mediated cell wall plasticity.

Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinases (PtdIns 3-kinases) that produce phosphatidylinositol (3,4,5) triphosphate (PtdIns(3,4,5)P(3)) are considered to be important regulators of actin dynamics in animal cells. In plants, neither PtdIns(3,4,5)P(3) nor the enzyme that produces this lipid has been reported. However, a PtdIns 3-kinase that produces phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate (PtdIns3P) has been identified, suggesting that PtdIns3P, instead of PtdIns(3,4,5)P(3), regulates actin dynamics in plant cells.
