About the Lab
Professor Yoon Hwan Chang's research lab focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer progression and therapy resistance, with a particular emphasis on viral oncology, stress response proteins, and autophagy in cancer. The lab investigates the roles of hepatitis B and C viruses in non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, explores natural compounds like piperlongumine in selective cancer cell death, and examines stress-induced chaperones such as HSP27 and HSP70 in tumor survival. Additionally, the lab studies autophagy and mTOR signaling in non-small cell lung cancer, aiming to uncover novel therapeutic targets. The work integrates molecular oncology, gene expression profiling, and translational research to improve cancer diagnosis and treatment strategies.

To gain more insight into the immunophenotypic and cytogenetic changes in acute leukaemia at relapse, 99 Korean patients treated at a single institution were studied: acute myelogenous leukaemia (AML, n=46), acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL, n=44) and biphenotypic and mixed leukaemia (n=9).
