Professor Young Eun Kim's research lab focuses on cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, kidney podocyte function, and cancer signaling pathways. Evidence has accumulated that Zn2+ plays a central role in neurodegenerative processes following brain injuries including ischaemia or epilepsy. In the present study, we examined patterns and possible mechanisms of Zn2+ neurotoxicity. Insulin increases surface expression of TRPC6 channels in podocytes: role of NADPH oxidases and reactive oxygen species

Insulin receptors in podocytes are essential for normal kidney function.
