About the Lab
Professor Young-jin Jung's research lab specializes in early modern British literature, with a focus on gender, authorship, and the material culture of writing. The lab explores women's literary production in the 17th century, particularly through autobiographical and devotional texts, examining how gender, religion, and textual form intersect. It also investigates the historical and critical dimensions of manuscript culture, print history, and the reclamation of women’s intellectual labor in literary studies. The lab emphasizes feminist literary criticism and the digital reactivation of early modern women’s writings.

15The Ampelmann system is an active motion compensation system that can compensate the vessel motions in six degrees of freedom. The Ampelmann, together with the attached gangway, makes it possible for people to transfer between a vessel and offshore structures safely. The Ampelmann system has been designed in the early stages based on a set of static load cases. For design and analysis related to fatigue life estimation, system operability and control improvements, it is necessary to obtain more
Literary collaboration has been a focus of recent studies of early modern literature. The outpouring of scholarship on the making of early modern writing and its social and material conditions, in particular, has resulted in rethinking the relation between writers and their writings. Such a critical turn to the material forms on which the meaning of a text depends and to the social networks of composition, publication, and distribution of literary artifacts serves as a call for a more nuanced ap

This essay aims to cultivate critical dialogues on early modern women’s engagement with religion through literature. Examining the autobiography of spiritual verse by the mid seventeenth-century Englishwoman An Collins, I explore the ways in which religious consciousness interplays with the gendered and afflicted female body. With a focus on Collins’ Divine Songs and Meditacions (1653), a collection written by a woman who suffered from disabilities and its anguish during her whole life, I look i
This essay offers a materially grounded reading of the early modern book with a special emphasis on the extent to which the physical aspect of the book participates in the process of meaning-making through its relationship with a human agent. Recent developments in the history of reading and textual scholarship have complicated the notion and status of the book, underscoring the dynamic relationship between books and human activities. Hence I call attention to early modern books as complex mater
This study offers a revisionist reading of John Donne’s Metempsychosis, or the Progress of the Soul (1601), a poem that has received only sporadic critical attention. The poem’s abrupt shifts of tone, narrative mode, and uses of generic conventions create a problem in accommodating it within the corpus of Donne’s poetry. Modern critics almost invariably categorizes the poem as a satire, paying disproportionate attention to the poem’s possible socio-political resonances. What is overlooked is Don
This thesis addresses the volatile body as a historiographical and literary category in selected works of Renaissance English literature. Through readings of poems by Edmund Spenser, John Donne, and John Milton, and of plays by Ben Jonson, John Webster, Richard Brome, Philip Massinger, and Sir William Berkeley, I investigate how Renaissance writers trope the idea of transformation in different ways, in different moments, and in different genres. What meanings inhere in the shifting forms they re
