About the Lab

Professor Youngil Kwon's research lab specializes in high-energy nuclear physics, focusing on quantum chromodynamics (QCD) phenomena in heavy-ion and proton-nucleus collisions. Key research directions include femtoscopy to probe the space-time dynamics of particle emission sources, charmed hadron production in hadronic collisions, and isolated photon production in p–Pb and pp systems. The lab also develops advanced silicon sensor technologies for particle detectors, such as the Si Mini-Pad sensor for the PHENIX experiment, supporting precision measurements in heavy-ion physics.

Angular correlations between charged trigger and associated particles are measured by the ALICE detector in p-Pb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV for transverse momentum ranges within 0.5 < p T,assoc < p T,trig < 4 GeV/c. The correlations are measured over two units of pseudorapidity and full azimuthal angle in different intervals of event multiplicity, and expressed as associated yield per trigger particle. Two long-range ridge-like structures, one on the near s

Measurement of prompt D ^0 , _c^+ , and _c^0,++ (2455) production in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV
S. Acharya, D. Adamová, Alexander Adler, Jonatan Adolfsson, G. Aglieri Rinella, M. Agnello, N. Agrawal, Z. Ahammed, S. Ahmad, S. U. Ahn, I. Ahuja, Zaenal Akbar

The $p_{\rm T}$-differential production cross sections of prompt D$^{0}$, $\Lambda_{\rm c}^{+}$, and $\Sigma_{\rm c}^{0,++}(2455)$ charmed hadrons are measured at midrapidity ($|y| < 0.5$) in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV. This is the first measurement of $\Sigma_{\rm c}^{0,++}$ production in hadronic collisions. Assuming the same production yield for the three $\Sigma_{\rm c}^{0,+,++}$ isospin states, the baryon-to-meson cross-section ratios $\Sigma_{\rm c}^{0,+,++}/{\rm D}^{0}$ and $\La

This work reports femtoscopic correlations of p - − p ( p ‾ - − p ‾ ) and p − − d ( p ‾ - − d ‾ ) pairs measured in Pb–Pb collisions at center-of-mass energy per nucleon s N N = 5.02 TeV in the ALICE Collaboration. A fit to the measured proton-proton correlation functions allows one to extract the dependence of the nucleon femtoscopic radius of the particle-emitting source on the pair transverse mass ( m T ) and on the average charge particle multiplicity 〈 dN ch / d η 〉 1 / 3 for three centrali

채종서, 미트라게게르치, 한인식, S. Y. Han, I. W. Jeong, 주관식, 김은주, 김용균, E. Kistenev, 권영일, J. G. Lajoie, Z. Li

The Si Mini-Pad sensor is an essential component of the MPC-EX preshower detector. Thisdetector will be integrated into the PHENIX experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratory’s RelativisticHeavy Ion Collider. We describe the development of the surface pattern and the fabricationprocess of the Si Mini-Pad sensor and present a test by the low energyirradiation that is sensitiveto the surface design.

Abstract This paper presents the measurement of the isolated prompt photon inclusive production cross section in pp and p–Pb collisions by the ALICE Collaboration at the LHC. The measurement is performed in p–Pb collisions at centre-of-mass energies per nucleon pair of $$\sqrt{s_{\text {NN}}}={5.02}\,\textrm{TeV}$$ s NN = <m

Radiation Damage of Multipixel Geiger-mode Avalanche Photodiodes Irradiated with Low energy γ's and Electrons
권영일, Y. B. Yun, J. M. Ha, J. S. Lee, Y. S. Yoon, J. W. Eun

A few types of multipipixel Geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes (also referred to as silicon photomultipliers SiPMs) are irradiated with 1 to 2.5 MeV γ’s and electrons. We characterize radiation damage effects appearing in the reverse bias current, the dark current and count rate, the pixel gain, and the photon detection efficiency of the devices. An interesting observation on the dark current and count rate is made and linked to the specific damage caused by the irradiation.

Femtoscopy of nonidentical particle pairs has been instrumental for precision measurements of both two-particle sources and the final-state interactions in high-energy elementary and heavy-ion collisions. The majority of measurements assessing the source properties are based on identical particle pairs, providing direct access to the characteristics of the single-particle source. The work in this paper demonstrates, via femtoscopy measurements of charged pion-deuteron pairs in Pb-Pb collisions a

Measurement of f_1 (1285) production in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV

This study presents the first measurement of the $f_{1}$(1285) resonance using the ALICE detector in inelastic proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The resonance is reconstructed at midrapidity (|y|< 0.5) through the hadronic decay channel $f_{1}$(1285) → $K_{S}^{0}K^{±}π^{∓}$. Key measurements include the determination of its mass, transverse-momentum integrated yield, and average transverse momentum. Additionally, the ratio of the transverse-momentum integrated yie

The first measurement of $_\Lambda^3H$ and $_{\bar\Lambda}^3\bar{H}$ differential production with respect to transverse momentum and centrality in Pb–Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV is presented. The $_\Lambda^3H$ has been reconstructed via its two-charged-body decay channel, i.e., $_\Lambda^3H$→$^3He+\pi^−$. A Blast-Wave model fit of the $p_T$-differential spectra of all nuclear species measured by the ALICE collaboration suggests that the $_\Lambda^3H$ kinetic freeze-out surface is
