About the Lab
Professor Yun, Chang-Ho's research lab focuses on the intersection of sleep disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and cerebrovascular health. The lab investigates how conditions like obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) contribute to cerebral amyloid deposition, white matter integrity loss, and cognitive decline, particularly in aging populations. A key research direction involves using advanced neuroimaging techniques—such as 11C-PiB PET and MRI—to understand the biological links between sleep disruption and neurodegenerative pathologies like Alzheimer’s disease. 15PURPOSE: Defining prognostic factors for neocortical epilepsy surgery is important for the identification of ideal candidates and for predicting the prognosis of individual patients. We use multivariate analysis to identify favorable prognostic factors for neocortical epilepsy surgery. Weekend sleep extension may have biological protective effects in preventing sleep-restriction induced or related obesity. The results suggest a simple population-level strategy to minimize effects of sleep loss.

This study investigates health behaviors, health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and sleep among chronotypes in a community-based sample (n = 2,976). Analysis of covariance indicated evening types (E-types) had a significantly higher percentage of current smokers and more sleep-interfering behaviors compared to intermediate and morning types (M-type), and also lower physical activity and more sleep disturbance compared to M-types. These findings suggest that dynamic changes in OSA status were significantly associated with WM integrity and cognition, which varied by age and sex. It is possible that adequate interventions for OSA could better preserve brain health in middle to late adulthood.
