About the Lab

Professor Yun Song Lee's research lab focuses on molecular mechanisms underlying pulmonary vascular diseases, particularly pulmonary hypertension and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The lab investigates the therapeutic potential of repurposed drugs—such as statins, metformin, and PPARγ agonists—in mitigating lung injury and vascular remodeling. A key research direction involves targeting cellular signaling pathways, including TGF-β/SMAD and mitochondrial function, to modulate fibrosis, inflammation, and vascular dysfunction. The lab also pioneers novel gene-editing technologies, such as mitochondrial DNA editing using CRISPR/Cas9, to explore genetic interventions in respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
