About the role

We are looking for translators who can turn research manuscripts written in Japanese into English ready for international journals. The job is not swapping words but carrying over the field's terminology and the structure of the argument. Translation is into English only.

What you will do

  • Translate academic manuscripts from Japanese into English
  • Check field terminology and use it consistently throughout the manuscript
  • Leave comments for the author where the original is ambiguous
  • With experience, also take on second-pass checks of other translators' work against the original

Who we are looking for

  • Able to read academic writing in Japanese accurately and write academic English
  • A master's degree or higher in a relevant field, or experience in academic translation
  • Familiarity with the conventions of journals and theses in the source language
  • Keeping manuscript content confidential

Why you will enjoy this work

  • Help research written in Japanese reach readers around the world
  • Read research from many fields in both the original and the translation
  • Work remotely, one manuscript at a time
