研究室紹介
Professor Beom Soo Shin's research lab specializes in pharmaceutical sciences and translational pharmacokinetics, with a focus on developing advanced drug delivery systems and predicting drug behavior in the body. The lab employs innovative technologies such as 3D printing for gastroretentive formulations and applies physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling to predict tissue distribution and systemic exposure of xenobiotics in preclinical and clinical settings. Research also extends to the disposition and bioavailability of various xenobiotics, including antivirals, environmental endocrine disruptors, and mycotoxins, using sensitive analytical methods and in vivo models. The lab's work bridges drug formulation, pharmacokinetic modeling, and clinical translation to improve therapeutic outcomes.

15Gastroretentive (GR) systems are designed to prolong gastric residence time to allow sustained absorption and improve the oral bioavailability of drugs with a narrow absorption window in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract. The present study aimed to develop a GR system for acyclovir using 3D printing technology and evaluate its in vivo pharmacokinetics after oral administration in Beagle dogs. The system consisted of a gastro-floating device, which can float in the gastric fluid, prepa
A physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model consisting of vein, artery, lung, liver, spleen, kidneys, heart, testes, muscle, brain, adipose tissue, stomach, and small intestine was developed to predict the tissue distribution and blood pharmacokinetics of bisphenol A in rats and humans. To demonstrate the validity of the developed PBPK model, bisphenol A was administered to rats by multiple iv injections to steady state. The PBPK model predicted the steady-state levels of bisphenol A in
This study was conducted to characterize the disposition, oral bioavailability, and tissue distribution of zearalenone in rats. The pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of zearalenone were studied after intravenous (i.v.) or oral (p.o.) administration at doses ranging from 1 to 8 mg/kg in intact and bile duct-cannulated rats. Serum, bile, and urine concentrations were determined by liquid chromatography and mass spectroscopy (LC/MS/MS) and tissue concentrations by high-performance liquid chr
A prospective study of 47 patients during mechanical ventilation with positive end-expiratory pressure was undertaken to evaluate changes in Pao2 following chest physiotherapy. In contrast to other studies, we found no significant change in Pao2 following chest physiotherapy (p greater than 0.05). Different technics for physiotherapy and ventilation may have accounted for the absence of hypoxemia reported by others. Possible reasons for failure to improve Pao2 were suggested. Chest X-ray before
Acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) are important causes of hospital admission and mortality. Pneumonia is a major contributor to hospitalization for AECOPD and has a close relationship with poor outcomes. We performed a prospective cohort study to evaluate the prognosis of AECOPD patients with or without community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) who hospitalized from January 2012 to December 2015. We investigated mortality and readmission rates within 6 months after t
A rapid and sensitive LC/MS/MS assay was developed and validated for the determination of clopidogrel in human plasma. Clopidogrel was extracted by single liquid-liquid extraction with pentane, and chromatographic separations were achieved on a C(18) column. The method was validated to demonstrate the specificity, linearity, recovery, lower limit of quantification (LLOQ), stability, accuracy and precision. The multiple reaction monitoring was based on m/z transition of 322.2 --> 211.9 for clopid
BACKGROUND: Interventional bronchoscopy is considered an effective treatment option for malignant central airway obstruction (MCAO). However, there are few reports of interventional bronchoscopy in patients with MCAOs due to extra-pulmonary malignancy. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate treatment outcomes and prognostic factors for bronchoscopic intervention in patients with MCAO due to extra-pulmonary malignancy. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed consecutive 98 patient
This study aimed to develop a novel oral drug delivery system for gastroretentive sustained drug release by using a capsular device. A capsular device that can control drug release rates from the inner immediate release (IR) tablet while floating in the gastric fluid was fabricated and printed by a fused deposition modeling 3D printer. A commercial IR tablet of baclofen was inserted into the capsular device. The structure of the capsular device was optimized by applying a design of experiment ap
Telacebec (Q203) is a potent drug candidate under clinical development for the treatment of drug-naïve and drug-resistant tuberculosis. The first-in-human randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, dose-escalation Phase 1A trial (Q203-TB-PI-US001) was conducted to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of telacebec.
This study describes the maternal-fetal disposition of bisphenol A and its distribution into the placenta and amniotic fluid after iv injection (2 mg/kg) to pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats. Bisphenol A was distributed extensively to the placenta and fetus, with their respective AUC values 4.4- and 2.2-fold greater than AUC for the maternal serum. In contrast, the distribution of bisphenol A into the amniotic fluid was low, with the mean amniotic fluid-to-maternal serum AUC ratio of 0.2. The decay c
