15The cancer rate in our cohort of women who underwent MRI-guided breast biopsy was 29%. It varied according to the indication for the original MRI examination, but not according to the MRI features of the lesions.
MRI is an accurate method for predicting the extent of residual tumor after neoadjuvant chemotherapy; however, it may overestimate the residual disease, especially in cases showing a nest or rim tumor pattern and in those having combined lesions with ductal carcinoma in situ or multiple scattered nodules after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
For lesions located in the surgical bed in patients after thyroidectomy, the distinction between recurrent thyroid cancer and nonrecurrent benign lesions cannot be made on the basis of the sonographic features. Fine-needle aspiration is helpful in determining the histologic nature of such lesions.
Epidemic adenoviral pneumonia may mimic bacterial pneumonia on radiographs. Findings that include bilateral and multifocal involvement on chest radiographs, normal or decreased WBC associated with lymphocytosis, and progression of illness despite extensive antibiotic therapy, help to differentiate epidemic adenoviral from bacterial pneumonia.
To evaluate the bone SPECT findings of vertebral hemangioma and their relationship to symptoms and MRI findings, the authors reviewed planar and SPECT bone scans and MR images of 15 vertebral hemangioma in 10 patients. All planar bone scan images demonstrated normal findings, except one, SPECT images demonstrated normal findings in 11 vertebral hemangioma less than 3 cm in diameter.
