研究室紹介

Professor Chang-kyun Lee's research lab specializes in gastrointestinal endoscopy and molecular oncology, with a strong focus on improving endoscopic treatment outcomes for colorectal polyps and gastric neoplasia. The lab investigates novel natural compounds with antitumor properties, such as cinnamaldehyde derivatives, for their potential in cancer therapy. Additionally, the lab conducts large-scale epidemiological and clinical studies on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), particularly examining the impact of immunosuppressive therapies on vaccine responses and infection risks like tuberculosis. These multidisciplinary efforts integrate clinical endoscopy, translational oncology, and health informatics to advance precision medicine in gastrointestinal diseases.

Cold Snare Polypectomy Vs. Cold Forceps Polypectomy Using Double-Biopsy Technique for Removal of Diminutive Colorectal Polyps: A Prospective Randomized Study
Chang Kyun Lee, Jae‐Jun Shim, Jae Young Jang
SJR Q1The American Journal of Gastroenterology

CSP is superior to CFP for the endoscopic removal of DCPs with regard to completeness of polypectomy. CSP technique should be considered the primary method for endoscopic treatment of polyps in the 4-5-mm size range (ClinicalTrials.gov number: NCT01646242).

SJR Q2Planta Medica

2'-Hydroxycinnamaldehyde (HCA) was isolated from Cinnamomum cassia Blume (Lauraceae) and 2'-benzoyloxycinnamaldehyde (BCA) was prepared by the reaction of HCA and benzoyl chloride. HCA and BCA strongly inhibited in vitro growth of 29 kinds of human cancer cells and in vivo growth of SW-620 human tumor xenograft without the loss of body weight in nude mice. HCA prevented adherence of SW-620 cells to the culture surface but did not inhibit oncogenic K-Ras processing, implying its antitumor mechani

BACKGROUND AND AIM: We conducted a nationwide validation study of diagnostic algorithms to identify cases of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) within the Korea National Health Insurance System (NHIS) database. METHOD: Using the NHIS dataset, we developed 44 algorithms combining the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10 codes, codes for Rare and Intractable Diseases (RID) registration and claims data for health care encounters, and pharmaceutical prescriptions for IBD-specific drugs. SJR Q1Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Endoscopic forceps biopsy (EFB) as the primary histological diagnosis of gastric epithelial neoplasia (GEN) is debated in the era of endoscopic resection (ER). Our aim was to investigate the diagnostic reliability of EFB in patients with GEN compared with ER specimens as the reference standard for the final diagnosis in a large consecutive series. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional retrospective study at a tertiary-referral center. A total of 354 consecutive patients with 39

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The effect of immunosuppressants on the efficacy of a variety of vaccines is a controversial issue in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In this study we determined whether specific immunosuppressants impair the serological response to the standard 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23) in a large cohort of patients with Crohn's disease (CD). METHODS: This was a multi-center, prospective observational study of adult patients with CD at 15 academic te

Ceco-colic intussusception with subsequent bowel infarction as a rare complication of colonoscopic polypectomy
Chang Kyun Lee, Jae‐Jun Shim, Jin‐Young Jang
SJR Q1EndoscopyOA

A 47-year-old man underwent a colonoscopic polypectomy to treat a cecal adenoma detected during a screening colonoscopy. The initial colonoscopy showed a 15-mm, nonpolypoid lesion (0-IIa type) located at the cecal base ([Fig. 1]). After a submucosal injection of 4 mL of diluted epinephrine solution (1 : 10 000), the lesion was successfully resected en bloc using a standard snare and electrical current and without complications. Prophylactic hemoclipping was carried out to prevent postprocedural

Background and aims: The impact of cytomegalovirus (CMV) colitis on long-term outcomes of ulcerative colitis (UC) flares remains controversial. Methods: A total of 257 UC patients with moderate-to-severe flares were observed for a mean follow-up of 41.2 months. CMV colitis was defined as histopathologic confirmation of CMV inclusions obtained from macroscopic endoscopic lesions in patients with UC flares. An independent gastrointestinal pathologist prospectively reviewed all specim

SJR Q2Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology

Introduction: We explored the long-term evolution of direct healthcare costs for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) using a population-level database in a country with an escalating burden of IBD. Methods: We searched the database of the Korean National Health Insurance Claims, which covers more than 97% of the South Korean population. An IBD diagnosis was defined as the combination of a billing code for Crohn's disease (CD: K50.xx) or ulcerative colitis (UC: K51.xx) and at least on
