Professor Dong Hoon Shin's research lab focuses on molecular oncology, with a strong emphasis on cancer metabolism, hypoxia signaling, and the role of key regulatory proteins such as SIRT1 and HIF-1α in tumor progression and therapy resistance. The lab also investigates ancient viral genomics, particularly hepatitis B virus evolution in historical populations, using advanced molecular techniques on preserved tissues. Additionally, the lab explores the development of novel nanomaterials, including palladium nanoclusters and carbon-coated metal oxide nanofibers, for applications in biosensing and energy storage.

Flower-like palladium nanoclusters (FPNCs) are electrodeposited onto graphene electrode that are prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The CVD graphene layer is transferred onto a poly(ethylene naphthalate) (PEN) film to provide a mechanical stability and flexibility.
