Professor Dong Hoon Suh's research lab focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying ovarian and gynecologic cancers, with a particular emphasis on cellular stress responses, metabolic reprogramming, and apoptosis regulation. The lab investigates the unfolded protein response (UPR) and autophagy in tumor cells, exploring their roles in cancer cell survival and chemoresistance. It also examines mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPTP) regulation as a target for improving tumor selectivity in cancer therapy. Additionally, the lab contributes to clinical advancements through translational research, including novel staging techniques and targeted therapies such as bevacizumab and PARP inhibitors.

15The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is responsible for protein processing. In rapidly proliferating tumor cells, the ER tends to be overloaded with unfolded and misfolded proteins due to high metabolic demand. With the limited protein-folding capacity of the ER, tumor cells often suffer from more ER stress than do normal cells.
