研究室紹介

Professor Dongwon Shin's research lab focuses on neuropsychiatry and pediatric mental health, with a particular emphasis on the neurobiological and environmental factors underlying attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The lab investigates the roles of stress reactivity, HPA axis function, trace elements like manganese, and familial factors such as maternal depression in shaping ADHD symptoms and treatment outcomes. Additionally, the lab explores pharmacological mechanisms of drugs like auranofin in cancer cell apoptosis and the application of biomaterials, such as fibrin sealants, in neurosurgical drug delivery. The research integrates molecular biology, clinical psychiatry, and epidemiological approaches to understand and improve mental health interventions in children and adolescents.

Auranofin Suppresses Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-2 Expression through Annexin A5 Induction in Human Prostate Cancer Cells
Dong‐Won Shin, Yeo‐Jung Kwon, Dong-Jin Ye, Hyoung‐Seok Baek, Jooeun Lee, Young‐Jin Chun
SJR Q1Biomolecules & Therapeutics

Auranofin has been developed as antirheumatic drugs, which is currently under clinical development for the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Previous report showed that auranofin induced apoptosis by enhancement of annexin A5 expression in PC-3 cells. To understand the role of annexin A5 in auranofin-mediated apoptosis, we performed microarray data analysis to study annexin A5-controlled gene expression in annexin A5 knockdown PC-3 cells. Of differentially expressed genes, plasminogen a

Blunted Hypothalamo-Pituitary-Adrenal Axis Reactivity is Associated with the Poor Intelligence Performance in Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
Dong‐Won Shin, Sang-Hun Lee
SJR Q2Neuropediatrics

The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis reactivity on intelligence test performance in subjects with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). We investigated the extent to which an increase or decrease in cortisol after stress was associated with the intelligence test performance in 68 clinic-referred children with ADHD. The mean age of the participants was 8.8 years; 54 of the 68 participants were boys and 14 were girls. ADHD w

Maternal Depression Predicts Maternal Use of Corporal Punishment in Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
신동원, Mark A. Stein

Purpose: We sought to determine if maternal depression contributed to the use of corporal punishment in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Patients and Methods: The data were gathered through chart review of clinic-referred children with ADHD and their mothers who were evaluated at a psychiatric clinic located in a large academic medical center in Seoul, Korea. Daily records kept by parents and 13 items from the Physical Assault of the Parent-Child Conflict Tactics Sc

Evaluation of Cumulative and Conditional Antibiotic Release from Vancomycin-Embedded Fibrin Sealant and Its Antibacterial Activity : An In Vitro Study
Dong‐Won Shin, Moon‐Jun Sohn, Chong-Rae Cho, Hae‐Won Koo, Sang Won Yoon
SJR Q2Journal of Korean Neurosurgical SocietyOA

This study suggests that fibrin sealant can provide an efficient vehicle for antibiotic drug release in a wide range of neurosurgical procedures and the safe and effective therapeutic dose will be at the concentration embedded of 4.167 mg/disc or more of vancomycin.

아시아 유소년 축구선수의 축구 경기 중 부상 발생률 및 양상
신동원, 윤영설

The purpose of this study was to examine the incidences and patterns of injuries, requiring medical attention, in Asian youth soccer players. 24 international matches between teams at youth elite levels were obsereved. Independent injury observers and team doctors recorded the occurrence, location and type of injuries. The data collected were later cross-tabulated in an interview session usually held within 12 hours after match. The overall injury frequency rate(IFR) was 144.3/1,000 hours in inj

Methods:Children and their parents were asked to fill out a structured self-report form regarding bullying incidents. To evaluate the characteristics of the children, the results of the ADHD Rating Scale, the Korean version of the Child Behavior Checklist, the ADHD Diagnostic system and the Emotional Recognition Test were used. SJR Q2Child Neuropsychology

This study uses fNIRS to determine whether there is a difference in the relationship between intra-individual variability and frontal lobe activity between ADHD patients and typically developing children. A total of 28 subjects (14 in ADHD patient group and 14 in control group) participated in this study. The subjects were tested for K-SADS and intelligence, and then the frontal lobe activity of the subjects was measured by continuous performance test, using functional near-infrared spectroscopy
