Professor Eun Ju Jo's research lab focuses on the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and biomarker discovery in chronic liver diseases, particularly hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)-associated liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The lab employs advanced molecular and metagenomic techniques to explore microbial dysbiosis in the circulation as potential diagnostic indicators, while also investigating epigenetic regulation of cancer-related genes such as fibulin-3 in tumor progression. A key research direction involves validating noninvasive biomarkers—like the fatty liver index and liver stiffness— for early detection and risk stratification in liver disease. The lab’s work bridges clinical hepatology with molecular diagnostics, aiming to support national and global goals for viral hepatitis elimination and improved liver disease management.
