Professor Gihun Lee's research lab specializes in the development of sustainable biomaterials from natural polymers such as silk sericin, lignin, and fish gelatin, with applications in environmental remediation, drug delivery, and biomedical engineering. The lab focuses on enhancing material performance through molecular-level interactions, such as hydrogen bonding in protein blends, and explores advanced functionalities like ultrafast drug release and topological magnon band structures in quantum materials. In the present study, novel adsorbents having high adsorption capability and reusability were prepared using agricultural by-products: silk sericin and lignin. Silk sericin and lignin blend beads were successfully prepared using simple coagulation methods for the removal of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) from aqueous solution.
