Professor Hak Jae Kim's research lab specializes in radiation oncology and translational cancer research, with a strong focus on optimizing radiotherapy outcomes in sarcomas, esophageal cancer, and uterine cervical cancer. The lab investigates adjuvant radiotherapy efficacy, treatment response patterns, and prognostic factors to improve survival and reduce complications. It also explores novel epigenetic agents like psammaplin A, examining their pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution to support the development of targeted cancer therapies. The lab integrates clinical data with preclinical pharmacological studies to advance personalized radiation treatment strategies.

SJR Q3American Journal of Clinical Oncology

OBJECTIVES: To analyze the treatment outcomes and the effects of adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) in patients with synovial sarcoma (SS). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The medical records of 103 patients treated with definitive surgery for SS, with/without RT, from August 1982 to July 2013 were reviewed retrospectively. The median age of the patients was 33 years (range, 5 to 72 y). The most frequent tumor location was the extremities (79 patients, 77%). Seventy-five patients (73%) received adjuvant RT and 2

AIMS AND BACKGROUND: To evaluate whether doses or dose rates at International Commission on Radiation Units (ICRU) reference points are of value for predicting risks of late rectal and bladder morbidity in patients with uterine cervical cancer who have undergone external beam radiotherapy and intracavitary irradiation. METHODS: Late rectal complications and late bladder complications were evaluated in 54 patients who were treated by external beam radiotherapy followed by intracavitary irradiatio

This study reports the pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of a novel histone deacetylase and DNA methyltransferase inhibitor, psammaplin A (PsA), in mice. PsA concentrations were determined by a validated LC-MS/MS assay method (LLOQ 2 ng/mL). Following intravenous injection at a dose of 10 mg/kg in mice, PsA was rapidly eliminated, with the average half-life (t1/2, λn) of 9.9 ± 1.4 min and the systemic clearance (CLs) of 925.1 ± 570.1 mL/min. The in vitro stability of PsA was determined in

Treatment outcomes of re-irradiation using stereotactic ablative radiotherapy to lung: a propensity score matching analysis
Tae Hoon Lee, Dong-Yun Kim, Hong‐Gyun Wu, Joo Ho Lee, Hak Jae Kim
SJR Q1Radiation OncologyOA

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to compare the treatment efficacy and safety of re-irradiation (re-RT) using stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) and initial SABR for primary, recurrent lung cancer or metastatic lung tumor. METHODS: A retrospective review of the medical records of 336 patients who underwent lung SABR was performed. Re-RT was defined as the overlap of the 70% isodose line of second-course SABR with that of the initial radiotherapy, and 20 patients were classified a
