Professor Han-Jin Jo's research lab focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer progression and neurogenic bladder dysfunction, with a strong emphasis on identifying natural compounds and bioactive molecules that modulate cellular signaling pathways. The lab investigates the chemopreventive and anti-tumor effects of dietary phytochemicals—such as flavonoids (e.g., kaempferol), conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) isomers, and indole derivatives (e.g., DIM)—in various cancer models, including colon, breast, and prostate cancer. Additionally, the lab explores neurological mechanisms of urinary retention, particularly in the context of brainstem infarction, linking structural brain lesions to urodynamic dysfunction. The research integrates in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies to translate molecular findings into potential therapeutic strategies.

We prospectively recruited 10 patients who presented with urinary retention as a neurological deficit that was attributable to lateral medullary infarction.
