Professor Hee-tae Yoo's research lab specializes in cardiovascular medicine with a focus on atrial fibrillation (AF) management, anticoagulation therapy, and the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying stroke and arrhythmia. The lab investigates real-world effectiveness and safety of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs), particularly edoxaban, in relation to renal function and dosing adherence. It also explores the role of immune senescence, especially cytomegalovirus-driven T-cell aging, in arterial stiffness and cardiovascular risk. Additionally, the lab examines sex differences in left atrial remodeling and outcomes following catheter ablation in AF patients.

Post-AF ablation high sinus HR was observed in patients with smaller LA size and higher LA electrogram voltage and significant vagal modulation without adverse cardiac effects. Post-AF ablation high sinus HR was associated with a significantly lower clinical recurrence of AF after catheter ablation.
Among patients with early-onset AF who underwent catheter ablation, women showed poorer clinical outcomes than men after de novo and second procedures. Left ventricular dysfunction, LA remodeling, and autonomic nervous function may be potential mechanisms underlying sex differences in catheter ablation outcomes of early-onset AF.

PURPOSE: Gender-based differences exist in the characteristics, management, and prognosis of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). However, their impact on prognosis remains unclear. We aimed to identify factors causing these differences in Koreans. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We examined 6,636 ACS patients (66.2% males) visiting 72 Korean hospitals between April-2007 and December-2008.
