研究室紹介

Professor Hong Gyu Kim's research lab specializes in biomedical and clinical research, focusing on metabolic and cardiovascular health, particularly the role of liver enzymes, insulin resistance markers, and impaired fasting glucose in predicting type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The lab conducts large-scale epidemiological studies using health examination data to identify early biomarkers and risk factors for chronic diseases, with a strong emphasis on population-based prevention strategies. Recent work also explores surgical outcomes in thyroid cancer and diagnostic criteria for sarcopenia using medical imaging. The lab integrates clinical data with statistical modeling to improve early diagnosis and risk assessment in Asian populations.

Differential Evolution Strategy for Constrained Global Optimization and Application to Practical Engineering Problems

SJR Q2IEEE Transactions on Magnetics

In this paper, some modifications to the differential evolution strategy are proposed for the constrained global optimization problem. The scaling factor F is varied randomly within some range and an auxiliary set is employed to enhance the diversity of the population. The newly generated trial vector is compared with the nearest parent. The simple feasibility rule is used to treat the constraints. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by solving some practical engineering pro

SJR Q1Diabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews

BACKGROUND: Although elevated serum concentrations of gamma-glutamyltrans- ferase (GGT) or alanine aminotransferase (ALT) have been associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus, it is unclear whether each is an independent predictor of type 2 diabetes or merely a surrogate marker for fatty liver or hepatic injury. METHODS: We assessed clinical and laboratory findings in 3556 non-diabetic subjects (2217 men, 1339 women; age, 45.7 +/- 8.1 (range 20-79) years) without fatty liver or clinically signific

The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index, a product of triglyceride and fasting glucose, is a reliable marker for insulin resistance. We aimed to investigate the association between the TyG-related markers and coronary artery calcification (CAC) progression. We enrolled 1145 asymptomatic participants who underwent repeated CAC score measurements during routine health examinations. Homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), TyG index, TyG-BMI (body mass index), and TyG-WC (waist ci

OBJECTIVE: The relationship between impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) or ischemic heart disease (IHD) varies widely according to sex and ethnicity. We evaluated the relationship between IFG and CVD or IHD among Korean men and women. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: A total of 408,022 individuals who underwent voluntary private health examinations in 17 centers in South Korea were followed for 10 years. Data regarding CVD or IHD events were obtained from the Kore

SJR Q1World Journal of Surgery

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic transoral thyroidectomy is a recently introduced technique of remote access thyroidectomy. We previously reported the feasibility of the robotic approach (TORT). Nevertheless, experience to date is limited, with scant data on outcomes in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). METHODS: This was a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data. Patients with PTC, who underwent TORT at a single center between March 2016 and February 2017, were analyzed. RESU

BACKGROUND: Although computed tomography (CT) is considered the gold standard for investigating skeletal muscles, diagnostic cutoff points for sarcopenia have not been established. We therefore suggested clinically relevant diagnostic cutoff points for sarcopenia based on reference values of skeletal muscle area (SMA) measured by CT scan in a large-sized healthy Asian population. METHODS: This cross-sectional analysis included 11,845 subjects (7,314 men, 4,531 women) who underwent abdominal CT s

BACKGROUND: The surgical outcomes of a single surgeon's initial cases of transoral robotic thyroidectomy (TORT) were compared with the surgeon's initial cases of a bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA) robotic thyroidectomy. METHODS: The medical reports were retrospectively reviewed. The BABA robotic thyroidectomies were performed between 2008 and 2009, and TORTs were performed between 2012 and 2016. RESULTS: Each group comprised 50 patients. Operative time for total thyroidectomy was shorter,

MHO phenotypes with high VAI values are associated with poor future metabolic outcomes. VAI-estimated visceral adiposity is well correlated with the prognosis of MHO subjects, and VAI has a good predictive value in determining the MHO-to-MUO conversion.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: To investigate whether non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in individuals without generalized obesity is associated with visceral fat obesity (VFO), sarcopenia, and/or myosteatosis. METHODS: This cross-sectional analysis included 14,400 individuals (7,470 men) who underwent abdominal computed tomography scans during routine health examinations. The total abdominal muscle area (TAMA) and skeletal muscle area (SMA) at the 3rd lumbar vertebral level were measured. The SMA was
