Professor Hong Gyu Kim's research lab specializes in biomedical and clinical research, focusing on metabolic and cardiovascular health, particularly the role of liver enzymes, insulin resistance markers, and impaired fasting glucose in predicting type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The lab conducts large-scale epidemiological studies using health examination data to identify early biomarkers and risk factors for chronic diseases, with a strong emphasis on population-based prevention strategies. Recent work also explores surgical outcomes in thyroid cancer and diagnostic criteria for sarcopenia using medical imaging. The lab integrates clinical data with statistical modeling to improve early diagnosis and risk assessment in Asian populations.

BACKGROUND: The surgical outcomes of a single surgeon's initial cases of transoral robotic thyroidectomy (TORT) were compared with the surgeon's initial cases of a bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA) robotic thyroidectomy. BACKGROUND/AIMS: To investigate whether non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in individuals without generalized obesity is associated with visceral fat obesity (VFO), sarcopenia, and/or myosteatosis. METHODS: This cross-sectional analysis included 14,400 individuals (7,470 men) who underwent abdominal computed tomography scans during routine health examinations. The total abdominal muscle area (TAMA) and skeletal muscle area (SMA) at the 3rd lumbar vertebral level were measured. The SMA was
