Professor Hwan Jun Jae's research lab specializes in interventional radiology and image-guided interventions, with a primary focus on transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) for various vascular and oncologic conditions. The lab investigates the clinical efficacy and safety of embolic agents—particularly N-Butyl Cyanoacrylate (NBCA)—in treating nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding and explores advanced imaging techniques like perfusion CT for early response assessment after transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). The lab also addresses challenges in embolic procedures by developing safer, biocompatible liquid embolic agents and improving interventional techniques to minimize complications such as catheter entrapment. Their work bridges interventional radiology, medical imaging, and interventional oncology to enhance patient outcomes in vascular and malignant diseases.

We believe that perfusion CT is a feasible alternative modality for the successful early response assessment and early detection of a marginally recurred tumor after TACE. However, perfusion CT has limitations for the prediction of tumor recurrence after TACE.
