Professor Hye Yeong Lee's research lab specializes in molecular diagnostics and biomedical data analysis, with a focus on infectious disease identification and cardiovascular disease biomarkers. The lab develops molecular techniques such as PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism and rpoB gene sequencing for precise mycobacterial species identification, while also conducting large-scale epidemiological studies to assess clinical risk factors—such as atrial fibrillation—on myocardial infarction. Additionally, the lab applies advanced analytical methods in metabolomics, including high-throughput ganglioside profiling in bovine milk, and investigates predictive biomarkers in pediatric diseases like Kawasaki disease. The integration of molecular biology, bioinformatics, and clinical epidemiology defines the lab’s interdisciplinary approach.

15PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis (PRA) using the novel region of the rpoB gene was developed for rapid and precise identification of mycobacteria to the species level. Milk gangliosides have gained considerable attention because they participate in diverse biological processes, including neural development, pathogen binding, and activation of the immune system. Herein, we present a quantitative measurement of the gangliosides present in bovine milk and other dairy products and byproducts. Ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography separation was used for high-throughput analysis and achieved a short running time without sacrificing chromatographic resolution.
