Professor Hyeon In Yang's research lab focuses on the pathogenesis and therapeutic interventions of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, particularly rheumatoid arthritis, type 2 diabetes, and systemic lupus erythematosus. The lab investigates the molecular mechanisms of disease progression, with an emphasis on identifying endogenous and exogenous compounds—such as piperine, taurine, and bee venom—that modulate inflammation, immune responses, and metabolic dysfunction. Genetic associations, especially of immune-regulatory genes like PD-1, are also a key focus, particularly in the context of Asian populations. The lab integrates preclinical animal models with translational approaches to evaluate potential therapeutics for chronic inflammatory and metabolic disorders.
