研究室紹介
Professor Hyeon-Joo Lee's research lab focuses on translational biomedical research, with a strong emphasis on neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic disorders, and the molecular mechanisms underlying chronic inflammation and oxidative stress. The lab investigates the glymphatic system's role in brain waste clearance, the therapeutic potential of natural compounds like Korean red ginseng and *Achillea alpina*, and the pathogenesis of hepatitis B virus-related liver disease. Using integrative approaches combining preclinical models, molecular biology, and advanced imaging techniques such as dynamic-contrast-enhanced MRI, the lab aims to uncover novel therapeutic targets and mechanisms for diabetes, obesity, and neurodegeneration.

15The glymphatic pathway expedites clearance of waste, including soluble amyloid β (Aβ) from the brain. Transport through this pathway is controlled by the brain's arousal level because, during sleep or anesthesia, the brain's interstitial space volume expands (compared with wakefulness), resulting in faster waste removal. Humans, as well as animals, exhibit different body postures during sleep, which may also affect waste removal. Therefore, not only the level of consciousness, but also body post
Many studies have documented that ginseng has antidiabetic and antiobesity effects, but the mechanism of the effects has not been elucidated. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Korean red ginseng (KRG, Panax ginseng) and investigate the mechanism of antidiabetic and antiobesity effects in obese insulin resistant animal models. Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided into three groups: a control group (group I) fed a normal diet, another group (group II) fed only high fat diet (HF
Background The adoption of immersive technology in simulation-based nursing education has grown significantly, offering a solution to resource limitations and enabling safe access to clinical environments. Despite its advantages, there are still diverse reports regarding the effectiveness of immersive technology. It is crucial to verify the effectiveness of immersive technology in nursing education to inform future educational programs. Objective This systematic review aimed to identify the cont
Chronic inflammation is fundamental for the induction of insulin resistance in the muscle tissue of vertebrates. Although several miRNAs are thought to be involved in the development of insulin resistance, the role of miRNAs in the association between inflammation and insulin resistance in muscle tissue is poorly understood. Herein, we investigated the aberrant expression of miRNAs by conducting miRNA microarray analysis of TNF-α-treated mouse C2C12 myotubes. We identified two miRNAs that were u
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is associated with a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations, including cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and subsequent oxidative stress have been implicated in liver carcinogenesis and disease progression with chronic inflammation. In our previous study, several mutations in the precore/core region of HBV genotype C were identified from 70 Korean chronic patients, and the mutations were associated with HCC and/or
Achillea alpina is widely distributed in Korea and is often used as a folk medicine for stomach disorders. Although a previous study isolated antioxidant compounds (flavonoid O-glucoside, sesquiterpene) from this plant, no systematic study of its chemical constituents had been reported. The present study aimed to identify the phytochemicals present in a methanol extract of A. alpina, assess their potential antioxidant activities in vitro, and determine their effects on melanogenesis in B16F10 me
α-Hydroxy alkylphosphonates have received attention both as substrates for the preparation of other α-substituted phosphonates, 1 and because of their inhibitory activity towards several important groups of enzymes, including farnesyl protein transferase, renin, HIV protease, and 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase, and various classes of protein tyrosine kinases and phosphatases. 2 Although certainly some are known, 3 examples where the a carbon is fully substituted are less common and
