Professor Hyeon-Ju Yoo's research lab specializes in analytical and bioanalytical chemistry, with a focus on advanced mass spectrometry techniques for structural elucidation of biomolecules. The lab investigates electron-induced fragmentation methods such as electron capture dissociation (ECD), electron transfer dissociation (ETD), and electron-induced dissociation (EID) to study peptides, proteins, and metabolites with high specificity and preservation of labile post-translational modifications. Additionally, the lab develops sensitive LC-MS/MS methods for quantifying biologically relevant molecules like short-chain fatty acids and fatty acid derivatives, contributing to understanding metabolic and inflammatory diseases. The integration of novel ionization and fragmentation strategies enables deeper insights into disease mechanisms, particularly in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and coagulopathies such as disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).

Our data demonstrate for the first time that extracellular histone can be released from leukemic cells through a ROS-dependent mechanism.
