Professor Hyuk Sung Kwon's research lab focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease and stroke, with an emphasis on identifying and validating biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis. The lab investigates the role of neuroinflammation, glial cell heterogeneity, and systemic factors such as blood pressure in brain pathology. Key research directions include the integration of plasma biomarkers (e.g., p-tau181, Aβ, NfL), amyloid PET imaging, and genetic factors (e.g., APOE) to predict disease progression and cognitive decline. Efforts are needed to reduce the comorbidity burden and differences in the 5-year community management rate according to residence area and income.
