研究室紹介

Professor Hyun Hoon Chung's research lab specializes in advancing diagnostic and prognostic tools for gynecological cancers, with a focus on ovarian, endometrial, and cervical cancers. The lab investigates molecular and imaging biomarkers—such as serum CA-125, FDG-PET/CT uptake, and MRI parameters—to improve preoperative staging and predict disease progression. A key research direction involves developing innovative nanotechnology-based methods for early cancer detection, particularly using fluorescent silica nanoparticles to enable rapid, sensitive isolation of circulating tumor cells from whole blood. The lab integrates clinical oncology with biomedical engineering to translate imaging and molecular diagnostics into practical clinical applications.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the predictive value of preoperative serum CA-125 levels in the assessment of disease extent and clinical outcome of endometrial cancer. METHOD: This retrospective study evaluated 92 women with pathologically proven endometrial carcinoma scheduled for treatment that had preoperative serum CA-125 levels between January 1999 and February 2006. The association of preoperative serum CA-125 with a variety of histopathologic factors was evaluated.

BACKGROUND: To investigate the feasibility of preoperative integrated positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) with fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) in primary pelvic lymph node (LN) staging before radical hysterectomy (RH) and pelvic lymphadenectomy (PLND) in cervical cancer. METHODS: We reviewed medical records of all patients with FIGO stage IA2-IIB cervical cancer who underwent a preoperative FDG PET-CT and underwent type II or III RH and PLND between January 1, 2003, and July
