Professor Hyung-Ik Shin's research lab focuses on neuromodulation and rehabilitation engineering, with a primary emphasis on noninvasive brain stimulation techniques such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and their effects on corticospinal excitability and chronic pain management. The lab investigates neurophysiological mechanisms using advanced imaging methods like FDG-PET and neurophysiological assessments such as motor-evoked potentials and Hoffmann reflexes. A key direction involves developing and validating portable, reliable tools for assessing muscle strength in individuals with mobility limitations, particularly in clinical populations such as those with spinal cord injuries or stroke. The lab also explores healthcare access disparities for people with disabilities, advocating for policy-driven environmental interventions to improve rehabilitation outcomes.

Infants (age, <1 year) who underwent a videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) were included in this retrospective study.
