Professor Hyung Jin Choi's research lab focuses on the neuroendocrine and metabolic regulation of energy homeostasis, with a particular emphasis on incretin hormones such as GLP-1 and GIP in the central nervous system. The lab investigates the neuronal circuits and molecular mechanisms underlying satiety, obesity, and type 2 diabetes, using translational approaches that integrate preclinical models with human studies. Key research directions include the role of hypothalamic GLP-1 receptor neurons in preprandial satiation, the impact of osteocalcin and vitamin K on glucose metabolism, and the application of metabolomics to identify biomarkers in diabetic complications such as diabetic retinopathy. The lab also conducts clinical trials to evaluate nutritional and pharmacological interventions in metabolic health.
