Professor Ik Jae Lee's research lab focuses on oncology and neuromuscular disorders, with a strong emphasis on identifying prognostic biomarkers and improving patient outcomes. The lab investigates the role of systemic inflammation, sarcopenia, and immune markers—such as neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio and growth arrest-specific protein 6—in cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy or chemoradiotherapy. Additionally, the lab explores quality of life and treatment outcomes in patients with myasthenia gravis, particularly focusing on gender differences and the impact of corticosteroid therapy. Prednisone is commonly used in the treatment of MG, with highly variable dosages and dosing frequencies reflecting the absence of a standard guideline. Intolerable AEs were more commonly reported among women and was associated with unwillingness to accept a dose increase. Consensus guidelines and their validation are required to guide prednisone treatment for MG.
INTRODUCTION: Quality of life (QOL) has been poorly characterized among patients with myasthenia gravis (MG) other than assessments performed within the clinical setting. Dysregulation of circulating Gas6 is associated with renal disease and inversely proportional to renal function. Low albumin and higher IV iron administration were associated with higher Gas6 levels, suggesting a possible connection between inflammation and oxidative stress mediated by iron.
