研究室紹介

Professor Ilkyu Han's research lab specializes in musculoskeletal oncology, with a primary focus on sarcomas of the bone, particularly pelvic and parosteal osteosarcomas. The lab investigates clinical outcomes, prognostic factors, and optimal treatment strategies, including limb-sparing surgery and reconstruction. A key research direction involves surveillance and early detection of lung metastasis in giant cell tumor of bone, evaluating imaging modalities and optimal follow-up schedules. The lab also emphasizes functional outcomes and complication profiles in complex pelvic reconstructions.

BACKGROUND: We present here the oncological and functional outcomes of limb salvage with or without reconstruction for primary sarcomas in the pelvic bone. METHODS: Forty-four patients who underwent pelvic resection for primary sarcomas involving the pelvis were reviewed. The average follow-up period was 39 months (range, 0 to 146 months). Chondrosarcoma (n = 17) and osteosarcoma (n = 10) were the most common diagnoses. Various clinicopathologic factors were analyzed in relation to the oncologic

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Literature on surveillance for lung metastasis from giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) is scarce. We aimed to develop one by determining: (1) the optimal surveillance schedule by analyzing time-to-event data, taking into account the predictive factors, and (2) the effective diagnostic modality. METHODS: A total of 333 patients who underwent surgery for GCTB were followed for at least 2 years. All had chest radiography, and 169 had additional CT for surveillance. Time to l

BACKGROUND: Parosteal osteosarcoma is a rare type of osteosarcoma with distinct characteristics. Clinical outcome of 21 patients was analyzed to assess the predictive relevance of surgical margin, intramedullary tumor extension and histologic grade. METHODS: There were 5 mens and 16 womens with an average age of 26 years. Average follow-up was 9.1 years (range 2.5-22.1). Most common sites were distal femur (15) and proximal humerus (2). No patient presented with metastasis. Surgical margin was w

OBJECTIVES: About 10% of patients present with metastasis at diagnosis in extremity soft tissue sarcoma (STS). Although the prognoses of these patients is generally poor, prolonged survival has been demonstrated in some patients. Thus, better prognostication is needed to guide decisions regarding adjuvant therapy and surveillance. This study sought to analyze the survival and to identify clinicopathologic factors associated with survival in extremity STS patients presenting with metastasis at di
