Professor Il-young Jung's research lab specializes in endodontic microbiology, dental pulp biology, and regenerative endodontics, with a strong focus on the role of microbial pathogens in apical periodontitis and the biological mechanisms underlying pulp inflammation and repair. The lab investigates the molecular and cellular responses to dental infection, including the expression of pain-related ion channels (e.g., TRPV1) and neuronal activation markers (e.g., c-Fos), using both clinical and preclinical models. A key research direction involves developing and evaluating regenerative treatment strategies for necrotic, immature permanent teeth, particularly through revascularization and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA)-based procedures.

15The purpose of this study was to investigate the epidemiology of putative pathogens in root canals with apical periodontitis and to determine the associations among the putative pathogens. The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the canal configuration types, and the prevalence and location of anatomical variations in the mesiobuccal (MB) and mesial roots of permanent maxillary and mandibular first molars after instrumentation.
