Professor In-Kyung Jeong's research lab focuses on the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying metabolic and vascular complications in diabetes, with a particular emphasis on the roles of taurine, uric acid, and fructose metabolism. The lab investigates how metabolic disturbances—such as hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and oxidative stress—contribute to diabetic complications, including macrovascular disease, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and insulin resistance. Using animal models like OLETF rats, the lab explores therapeutic interventions, including taurine supplementation and uric acid-lowering agents, to mitigate these complications. The research also examines the impact of comorbid conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea on glucose metabolism and systemic inflammation.
