Professor Jae Hoon Moon's research lab focuses on thyroid disorders, particularly thyroid cancer and hyperthyroidism, with an emphasis on clinical decision-making, quality of life in treatment choices, and the impact of thyroid function on cognitive health in the elderly. The lab conducts prospective cohort studies to evaluate active surveillance versus surgery in low-risk papillary thyroid microcarcinoma and investigates biomarkers such as thyroglobulin and endothelial progenitor cells in disease progression. Their work bridges clinical endocrinology with patient-centered outcomes and metabolic influences on thyroid disease.

15The high prevalence of thyroid nodules in people who underwent thyroid US at a health checkup suggests that increased detection of thyroid nodules resulted in an increased prevalence in the general population. However, metabolic disturbances may also have contributed to the increase in thyroid nodule prevalence in Korea.
Our results validated 1.0 ng/mL of FNA-Tg as a cutoff value for diagnosing LN metastasis of PTC and suggested that serum TSH suppression and serum Tg presence should be considered in diagnosing LN malignancy with FNA-Tg in PTC patients.
