研究室紹介
Professor Jae Hyuk Lee's research lab focuses on translational oncology and biomedical pathology, with a strong emphasis on tumor microenvironment, molecular markers of cancer progression, and the immunological and inflammatory responses in various malignancies. The lab investigates key biomarkers such as PTEN, E-cadherin, MMPs/TIMPs, and monocyte dynamics to understand their roles in tumor behavior, metastasis, and patient outcomes in colorectal, gastric, cervical, and breast cancers. Additionally, the lab extends its research into sustainable development, particularly evaluating the ecological and social sustainability of ecotourism through evidence-based assessment frameworks.

15An inflammatory cell reaction at the tumor invasive border is considered a useful predictor of survival after colorectal cancer surgery, particularly for patients with stage III disease or rectal cancer.
This study was performed to evaluate the association of monocyte counts with mortality, the rate of bacteremia, and organ dysfunction and to evaluate whether the change in monocyte counts from the premorbid state to sepsis would differ between survivors and non-survivors in patients with severe sepsis including septic shock. A retrospective analysis of patients with severe sepsis including septic shock was performed. Monocyte counts were categorized into <250, 250-500, 500-750, and ≥750 cells/μL
Phyllodes tumors (PTs) of the breast are rare biphasic tumors with the potential for invasion and metastatic spread. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) are involved in several key aspects of tumoral growth, invasion, and metastasis, but little is known of their expression in PTs. The objective of this study was to assess the expression of MMPs and TIMPs in PTs and to determine their association with grade and clinical behavior of PTs. Eight
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Loss of PTEN expression has been associated with tumor progression and adverse patient outcome. The purpose of this study was to evaluate PTEN expression in the successive steps of progression in cervical neoplasia and to determine its correlation with tumor angiogenesis and clinicopathologic features in squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix. METHODS: Immunohistochemical staining with anti-PTEN antibody was performed in a total of 160 patients with 12 normal ce
OBJECTIVE: Abnormal expression of E-cadherin plays an important role in the differentiation and progression of gastric carcinoma. However, the relationship between molecular changes in E-cadherin and metastasis in early gastric carcinoma (EGC) is poorly understood. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty cases of EGC with or without lymph node metastasis (30 node-positive cases and 30 node-negative cases) were investigated to evaluate hypermethylation status using bisulfate-MSP and immunohistochemistry usi
The current diagnosis of bacteremia mainly relies on blood culture, which is inadequate for the rapid and quantitative determination of most bacteria in blood. Here, a quantitative, multiplex, microfluidic fluorescence in situ hybridization method (μFISH) is developed, which enables early and rapid (3-h) diagnosis of bacteremia without the need for prior blood culture. This novel technology employs mannose-binding lectin-coated magnetic nanoparticles, which effectively opsonize a broad range of
BACKGROUND: Extraskeletal osteosarcoma is a rare malignant mesenchymal tumor, with a predominant occurrence in the extremities. Only two cases of mesenteric extraskeletal osteosarcoma have been documented. We describe an unusual case of extraskeletal osteosarcoma with telangiectatic features occurring in the mesentery. CASE PRESENTATION: A 67-year-old male presented with blood-tinged stool of 1-month's duration. On colonoscopy, a solid mass was detected protruding from the colon wall. Computed t
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective large population-based study. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to elucidate the association between vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) and pneumonia. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: VCF is known to be associated with impaired pulmonary function. However, the risk of developing pneumonia after new-onset VCF has not been evaluated. METHODS: The data source was the National Health Screening Program Cohort, a population-based sample cohort of national health screening
OBJECTIVE: Early defibrillation is crucial for the survival of patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. This study aimed to examine the trends and associated factors regarding public awareness and willingness to use automated external defibrillators (AEDs) through citywide surveys. METHODS: Three-round surveys were conducted in February 2012 (n=1,000), December 2016 (n=1,141), and December 2018 (n=1,001) among citizens in Daegu, South Korea, who were aged ≥19 years. The subjects were select
