研究室紹介

Professor Jae Min Jeong's research lab focuses on interdisciplinary studies at the intersection of technology, media, and human behavior. Key research directions include consumer behavior in digital environments, particularly regarding social networking advertising, news consumption patterns, and e-book adoption. The lab also investigates technological innovations in mobile security and computer systems, such as machine learning-based malware detection and hybrid file systems for emerging non-volatile memory technologies. These efforts reflect a strong emphasis on understanding user perceptions and developing adaptive, efficient computing solutions in the context of rapid digital transformation.

Factors affecting attitudes and behavioural intention towards social networking advertising: a case of Facebook users in South Korea
Jaemin Jung, Sung Wook Shim, Hyun Seung Jin, Hyoungkoo Khang
SJR Q1International Journal of Advertising

This study examined factors (e.g., ad values and social networking advertising characteristics) influencing consumers' attitudes and behavioural intention towards three types of social networking advertising (SNA) on Facebook – home page ad, social impression ad, and organic impression ad. Findings demonstrate that peer influence had the most significant impacts on attitude and behavioural intention across all types of SNA. The significant interaction term of invasiveness and privacy concern ind

Perceived News Overload and Its Cognitive and Attitudinal Consequences for News Usage in South Korea
Haeyeop Song, Jaemin Jung, Young‐Ju Kim
SJR Q1Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly

This study focuses on the ironic situation in which news is more available than ever but people are becoming overwhelmed and thus avoid it. A theoretical model is suggested to investigate the relationships between perceived news overload and its cognitive and attitudinal consequences among South Korean Internet users. A structural model reveals that perceived news overload induced news avoidance by increasing news fatigue and news analysis paralysis. Furthermore, this study finds evidence that n

SJR Q1New Media & Society

This study attempts to identify the predictors of e-book reader diffusion with regard to consumer awareness, interest, and intention to use. Specifically, it assesses the relative influence of demographics, media usage/ownership, and personal traits/perception variables in the technology-adoption process. A national consumer survey conducted in South Korea, a leading country in the proliferation of e-book use, found that e-book reader awareness, interest, and adoption intention correlated positi

Causes of newspaper firm employee burnout in Korea and its impact on organizational commitment and turnover intention
Jaemin Jung, Young‐Ju Kim
SJR Q1The International Journal of Human Resource Management

This study assesses the degree of burnout among newspaper firm employees in Korea and investigates the causes and consequences of this phenomenon. A survey of reporters and non-reporting staff members from the 10 national daily newspaper firms in South Korea indicates that employees suffer from burnout. In particular, respondents claimed to have experienced a higher level of exhaustion than cynicism and a diminished sense of professional efficacy. Overload, a non-autonomous, non-supportive work

Android Malware Detection Based on Useful API Calls and Machine Learning
Jaemin Jung, Hyunjin Kim, Dongjin Shin, Myeonggeon Lee, Hyunjae Lee, Seong-je Cho, Kyoungwon Suh

Accurate malware detection can benefit Android users significantly considering the growing number of sophisticated malwares recently. In this paper, we propose a machine learning based malware detection methodology that identifies the subset of Android APIs that is effective as features and classifies Android apps as benign or malicious apps. The proposed methodology first constructs two ranked lists of popular Android APIs. One is benign_API_list that contains the top popular APIs commonly used

SJR Q2ACM Transactions on Storage

In this work, we develop a novel hybrid file system, FRASH, for storage-class memory and NAND Flash. Despite the promising physical characteristics of storage-class memory, its scale is an order of magnitude smaller than the current storage device scale. This fact makes it less than desirable for use as an independent storage device. We carefully analyze in-memory and on-disk file system objects in a log-structured file system, and exploit memory and storage aspects of the storage-class memory t

Acquisitions or Joint Ventures: Foreign Market Entry Strategy of U.S. Advertising Agencies
Jaemin Jung
SJR Q2Journal of Media Economics

This article examines the preferred foreign entry mode and region of U.S.-based advertising agencies by analyzing all cross-border acquisitions and joint ventures completed from 1981 to 2001. In addition, based on the transaction cost theory, the impact of host country risk and cultural distance on the choice of entry mode was tested with a binomial logistic regression model. Although the frequency of acquisitions was approximately three times greater than that of joint ventures, U.S. agencies p

Measuring usage concentration of smartphone applications: Selective repertoire in a marketplace of choices
Jaemin Jung, Young-Ju Kim, Sylvia M. Chan‐Olmsted
SJR Q1Mobile Media & Communication

Using the tracking data of 1,645 smartphone users from Nielsen KoreanClick’s panel, this study examines the degree of concentration in smartphone application use in South Korea. The findings from this study are consistent with what we have learned from previous research of usage concentration and selective repertoire in a multichannel and multimedia environment. Overall, the levels of concentration in app usage are high, particularly in the communication and social media categories. Empirical ev

Manufacturing and Characterization of Dental Crowns Made of 5-mol% Yttria Stabilized Zirconia by Digital Light Processing
Jaemin Jung, Gyu‐Nam Kim, Young‐Hag Koh, Hyoun‐Ee Kim
SJR Q2MaterialsOA

We herein report manufacturing of dental crowns made of 5-mol% yttria partially stabilized zirconia (5Y-PSZ) with desired mechanical properties, optical translucency and dimensional accuracy using digital light processing (DLP). To this end, all processing parameters were carefully controlled and optimized. First, 5Y-PSZ particles with a bimodal distribution were prepared via calcination of as-received granules and subsequent ball-milling and then used to formulate 5Y-PSZ suspensions with a high

Android malware detection using convolutional neural networks and data section images
Jaemin Jung, Jongmoo Choi, Seong-je Cho, Sangchul Han, Minkyu Park, Young-Sup Hwang

The paper proposes a new technique to detect Android malware effectively based on converting malware binaries into images and applying machine learning techniques on those images. Existing research converts the whole executable files (e.g., DEX files in Android application package) of target apps into images and uses them for machine learning. However, the entire DEX file (consisting of header section, identifier section, data section, optional link data area, etc.) might contain noisy informati
