Professor Jae-woong Lee's research lab focuses on neuroinflammatory mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease, with an emphasis on how systemic inflammation exacerbates amyloidogenesis and cognitive decline. The lab also investigates metabolic disorders such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in relation to hyperuricemia, exploring underlying pathophysiological links. Additionally, the lab engages in bioactive natural product research, identifying anti-inflammatory compounds like inflexinol from medicinal plants, and applies tissue engineering principles to develop biomaterials for skin regeneration. These interdisciplinary efforts span neuroscience, metabolic disease, natural product pharmacology, and biomedical materials.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is being reported annually in South Korea since its first detection there in 2010.
