BACKGROUND: Duct-to-duct (DD) anastomosis is an accepted procedure for biliary reconstruction in living donor liver transplantation (LDLT). However, biliary complication rates in LDLT recipients have been reported to be as high as 20% to 30% or more. In this study, we examined various potential risk factors for biliary stricture (BS) that occurs in the context of DD reconstruction in a single-active transplant center. METHODS: Enrolled in this study were adults who underwent their first LDLT wit

SJR Q2BMC NephrologyOA

PURPOSE: Dual kidney transplantation (DKT) offers a way to extend the use of kidneys from expanded criteria donors (ECDs). Here, we compared the outcomes of DKT with those of single kidney transplantation from standard criteria donors (SCDs) and ECDs. METHODS: In 2014, we began performing DKT using both kidneys from deceased donors greater than 70 years of age with one of two risk factors: serum creatinine (sCr) level over 3.0 mg/dl or eGFR under 30 ml/min. By 2017, we had performed 15 DKTs. We

Auxiliary liver xenotransplantation technique in a transgenic pig‐to‐non‐human primate model: A surgical approach to prolong survival
Kyo Won Lee, Sean S. W. Park, Dong Suk Kim, Kimyung Choi, Joohyun Shim, Jihun Kim, Sung Joo Kim, Jae Berm Park
SJR Q2XenotransplantationOA

Xenotransplantation using pigs' liver offers a potentially alternative method to overcome worldwide donor shortage, or more importantly as a bridge to allotransplantation. However, it has been challenged by profound thrombocytopenia and fatal coagulopathy in non-human primate models. Here we suggest that a left auxiliary technique can be a useful method to achieve extended survival of the xenograft. Fifteen consecutive liver xenotransplants were carried out in a pig-to-cynomolgus model. Right au

SJR Q1Transplant International

Steroids have been a mainstay of immunosuppressive regimens in renal transplantation despite their adverse effects. The introduction of new immunosuppressant has improved the survival rates and prompted trials of steroid withdrawal. We conducted a randomized prospective study to compare steroid withdrawal at 6 months post-transplant between tacrolimus + mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) (FK group) versus cyclosporine A + MMF (CsA group). Steroid was withdrawn at 6 months post-transplant under the cond
