Renal mass biopsy for a small renal mass can be performed accurately. Nondiagnostic renal mass biopsy was common for smaller masses and cystic masses, and during the initial years of the study. A second biopsy should be considered in nondiagnostic biopsy cases.

OBJECTIVES: To determine the effect of visceral obesity on the prognosis of advanced renal cell carcinoma patients undergoing nephrectomy. METHODS: We reviewed clinicopathological data of 2187 patients who underwent nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma (localized [T1-2, N0, M0], n = 1738 [79.5%]; advanced [T3-4, any N and M], n = 449 [20.5%]) at Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, Korea. Our findings suggest that overweight and obese Korean patients with renal cell carcinoma have more favorable pathological features and a better prognosis than those with a normal body mass index.
OBJECTIVES: To identify the prognostic significance of lymphovascular invasion (LVI) and perineural invasion (PNI) in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer. METHODS: Overall, 237 patients who had undergone radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer between 1995 and 2004 were analyzed for all clinical and pathological factors. The influence of these two pathological features on biochemical failure-free survival was evaluated by univariate and multivariate analysis. RESULTS:
RTV was correlated with PTV and pathologic grade. RTV was larger than the PTV for a tumor size 7 cm or less or in clear cell RCC. RTV may be useful to measure tumor burden preoperatively.
Findings suggest that the prognostic significance of perirenal fat invasion depends on primary tumor size. Perirenal fat invasion included in the pT3a stage regardless of tumor size should be reevaluated by tumor size for a more accurate patient prognosis.
Incidence of UC was much higher in KT recipients than the general population. Treatment outcomes for UC in KT recipients were not inferior to those of non-KT patients, except for the progression of bladder cancer. Special attention should be paid to screening and treatment of UC in KT recipients.
