Professor Jeong-bin Kim's research lab focuses on neurological and neurodegenerative disorders, with a strong emphasis on understanding the pathophysiology of multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, migraine, and Alzheimer’s disease through advanced neuroimaging and neurophysiological techniques. The lab investigates immune modulation in autoimmune diseases, particularly the role of dendritic cells and monocytes in therapeutic responses, and explores brain network alterations in epilepsy and cognitive decline. Using multimodal imaging (fMRI, EEG, MRI), graph theory, and clinical correlation, the lab aims to identify early biomarkers and develop non-invasive interventions for neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric conditions. A key focus is on translating neuroimaging and electrophysiological findings into clinical tools for early diagnosis and personalized treatment.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive disease leading to cognitive decline, and to prevent it, researchers seek to diagnose mild cognitive impairment (MCI) early. Particularly, non-amnestic MCI (naMCI) is often mistaken for normal aging as the representative symptom of AD, memory decline, is absent. Subjective cognitive decline (SCD), an intermediate step between normal aging and MCI, is crucial for prediction or early detection of MCI, which determines the presence of AD spectrum pathology.

A sensitive and robust HPLC method with fluorescence detector (FLD), photochemical reaction device (PHRED) was developed to determine Aflatoxins (B1, B2, G1, and G2) and Ochratoxin A in animal feeds. We observed a novel finding of right insular atrophy in patients with neurocardiogenic syncope with a positive response to the head-up tilt test, implicating the role of right insular dysfunction in the pathophysiologic mechanism underlying neurocardiogenic syncope. Our findings further support the hypothesis that right insular dysfunction may cause a decrease in sympathetic activity and a reciprocal increase in parasympathetic activity, leading to syncope.
